Hartland, the smallest town in New Brunswick, has a varied and interesting history.  It was known as “Mouth of the Guimac” until it was officially changed to “Hartland” about 1870. 
Some say it was named in honor of Rev. Samuel Hart, an early Baptist minister; others say it is in honor of James Hartley, an early surveyor; while others say it was named because it was “the heart of the county.``


The Longest Covered Bridge in the World (1,282 feet) is one of New Brunswick’s “Top Attractions.” Over 100 years of stories and history surround this wooden structure that crosses the beautiful St. John River in downtown Hartland. Walk or drive (no charge) across this National and Provincial Heritage Structure.  


Assited genealogical research is available at the Dr. Walter Chestnut Library, in a historic 1912 building. The friendly staff will assist you in finding your roots. Also visit the W.W. Craig Gallery here to sample local art displays.

 
 Play a Round of Golf at the Covered Bridge Golf & Country Club. This championship 18 hole golf
course will have you coming back for more, as you enjoy the spectacular scenery from this challenging course that overlooks the St. John River Valley.



Stop by the Covered Bridge Potato Chip Company to take a tour of their old fashioned kettle-cooked chip factory. You can also sample hot chips that are fresh off the line, learn the history of potato chips and agriculture in New Brunswick, and visit the gift shop for unique souvenirs.
